영어 공무중인데 해석 도와주세요

아기 재우고나서 영어 시험좀 준비하기로 맘먹었는데...

너무 오래 손놓았는지 이 문제 지문은 해설이 안되네요

도와주세요 해석과... 좀 어려운 표현들 ㅠㅠ

미리 너무 감사드리고 제가 들어오는데가 82밖에 없어서 종종 글 올릴거같애용 ㅠㅠ

총체적 난국이랄까요 ㅠㅠ 첫문장 이후롴 해석이 잘안되니.. 첫뭌장도 자신이 없어지는게 ㅠㅠ

통째로 해석을 도와드리면 시험공부에
도움이 안될텐데요.
모르는 단어 직접 찾아 뜻을 알고 문장을
이해하셔야 공부가 되죠.
정 안되면 구글번역이라도 해서 문맥이라도
짚으시고 그래도 안되면 한두 문장 도움을
구하셔야지..너무하신거 아닌가요?

누가 쓴건지 제가 이해를 못하는 건지 참 논리의 비약 같아요. 시간을 척도가 없다면 이 사회가 그리 혼란스러웠을까요? 그것도 운송, 서비스, 정보교환 차원에서... 그래서 현대 문명이 시작할 수 없었을거라니..
