In "Part 1," one could hear the composer's background as a guitar player. Music played easily with nails on the guitar, with its close-together strings, does not necessarily translate to gayageum hands, however even those belonging to a fantastic player like Ms A. In several places, a gayageum part meant, according to the composer's note, to sound "bright," was rendered almost inaudible both by the light touch required to play such a complex part with such speed, and also by the bigger and deeper tones of the gomungo, its equally difficult part played admirably by Ms B. The complexity of the two instruments' strained democracy inhibited the full interlocking of rhythms in this movement which I nevertheless still found to be very persuasive.
